 Highlighting a record-breaking session, Red Storm Stable, Inc. went to $235,000 for hip number 180, a colt by Halo's Image out of stakes-winning Proud Clarioness, by Tri Jet, to top the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2005 Selected Yearling Sale's opening session Aug. 23. Consigned by Celebrity Farm, Agent, the bay colt is a half-brother to graded stakes winners Hesabull and Big E E. His full brother, graded stakes placed Cooperation, also sold by Celebrity Farm, topped the 2002 Selected Yearling Sale, going to James Mclngvale for $200,000.
Hip number 104, a colt by Yes It's True, consigned by Summerfield (Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Robert J. Harris, Agent, for $180,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Joyatlast, by Valid Appeal, and is a half-brother to stakes winner Rocky Robin and stakes-placed Come On Joy
Buzz Chace, bidding on behalf of West Point Thoroughbreds, went to $170,000 for hip number 79, a filly by Yes It's True consigned by Big C Farm, Agent. Out of Future Question, by Copelan, the bay filly is a half-sister to stakes-placed Bemie B
Hip number 234, a colt by Exchange Rate consigned by Highclere Sales, Agent, was sold to Gulf Coast Farms Bloodstock for $170,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Timely Holiday, by Caveat, a full sister to graded stakes winner Timely Warning
For the selected session, 177 horses brought a sale record total of $9,252,000, compared with 144 yearlings grossing a total of $6,367,000 at last year's session. The previous mark was $6,921,500 in 1999. The average price was a record $52,271, up 18.2% compared $44,215 a year ago and surpassing the previous record $44,945 set in 1999
The median price was a record $45,000, up 28.5% from $35,000 in 2003, while the buyback percentage was 21.3%, down from 25.7% in last year's corresponding session. Sixteen yearlings sold for $100,000 or more, double the number in 2003. Nick De Meric, Agent, was the session's leading buyer with eight for a total of $496,000
Hip number 546, a colt by Pikepass consigned by Kaizen Sales, Agent, went to Martin Cherry for $220,000 to top the first open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2005 August Yearling Sale the following day. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Dutch's Duchess, by Roy, a daughter of stakes winner Missy's Music.
For the session, 240 horses grossed $3,261,700, compared with 218 horses bringing a total of $2,273,600 in last year's first Open session. The average price was $13,590, up 30.3% from $10,078 last year, while the median price of $7,000 rose 3.7% over last year's $6,750. The buyback percentage was $ 18.6%; it was 27.8% a year ago. Twelve hors- es sold for $50,000 or more compared to two a year ago.
